Who We Are

-

The Foster Parent Advisory Board (FAB) is a foster parent led, strength based, multi-professional group working to create a culture of child centered, effective collaboration in Monroe County.

We began in 2021, while Monroe County experienced a critical need for recruitment and retention of foster homes. County administrators, workers, and foster parents wanted to create an ongoing conversation to better understand the key issues which reduced the number of licensed foster homes or prevented community members from becoming licensed foster parents.

Why We Exist

-

The FAB exists to promote dialogue between the foster parent community and county professionals who simultaneously strive to provide kids with their best care. We work strategically to improve issues impacting recruitment and retention of foster homes.

We Know

-

Child Protective systems in every county exist to advocate and protect in the messiest and most challenging of family circumstances. The system is inherently messy and complex because... people.

Foster Parents and professionals must work upon each others strengths to maximize outcomes for kids in care.

Foster Parents and the county are placed into a "Co-parenting" relationship which deserves intentional communication and ongoing relationship to work through systemic challenges.

There is value in building a

culture of understanding

across roles.
